The holidays are right around the corner, and many patients are doing their best to ensure they are ready for them. We want to remind our patients to take extra good care of their smiles this season. Here are some of our best tips on how you can ensure your smile remains healthy and beautiful this holiday season:
Use Your Dental Insurance Benefits
Many patients often forget about their unused dental insurance benefits once the holidays come around. It’s important to know that you cannot use any unused benefits once the year is over. We recommend going ahead and scheduling any necessary dental procedures or preventative care appointments as soon as possible to avoid the holiday rush. Dr. Parnaik participates with Delta Dental and we work with most other dental insurance companies as a non-participating provider. Even if we are not in your network, in most cases, we will be able to help you use your dental insurance benefit to help pay for your treatment. As a courtesy, we will submit claims on your behalf and you will be responsible for paying any balance not paid by dental insurance. Most patients only pay a small co-pay or deductible. Contact our office directly if you have questions about your insurance coverage.
Remember To Brush and Floss
Your at-home oral hygiene routine is your smile’s first line of defense against tooth decay and gum disease progression. Taking care of your smile is always important, even during the busier seasons. With so much going on in the upcoming months, make sure you are taking the time to brush and floss at least twice a day. We would hate to see our patients in need of emergency dentistry services during the beginning of the new year because they forgot to take care of their smiles during the holiday season. Additionally, we want to remind our patients that we recommend scheduling preventative care appointments with a professional dentist at least once every six months. If it has been over six months since the last time you sat in the dental chair, go ahead and schedule your appointment now!
Consider Cosmetic Dentistry
The holidays may look a little different this year with social distancing restrictions. Whether you are attending small holiday gatherings, family dinners, or group Zoom calls, we understand you still want to look your best when seeing old friends and family members. To help our patients feel more confident with their smiles, we provide comprehensive cosmetic dentistry solutions including professional teeth whitening. Medford dentist Dr. Poorva Parnaik offers both in-office and at-home teeth bleaching options. Teeth are often stained or discolored by long-term consumption of coffee, tea, or other staining foods. We often see patients suffer tooth discoloration around the holidays due to many holiday snacks being tough on your teeth. If you want your smile to remain its whitest and brightest, avoid certain holiday foods and beverages like cranberry sauce, blueberry pie, or red wine. These substances are all known for leaving behind staining agents on your dental structures.
